BUKIRO SEED SECONDARY SCHOOL COMMISSIONED

Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Education and sports, has today commissioned Bukiro Seed secondary school, located in Bukiro Town Council, Mbarara District.   The Seed school construction cost the government UGX 2.1 billion, and the works were undertaken by Cream General and Technical Services LTD.. The Commissioning of the seed school was officiated by the Minister of state for primary Education and Sports, Hon. Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaduchu, who represented the Minister of Education and sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni.  According to Hon. Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaduchu, the government has planned to construct a total of 259 seed secondary schools in sub counties without seed schools and this will be implemented in three phases. She added that the first phase will cover 117 seed secondary schools, the second phase will handle 115 seed secondary schools constructed and the last phase will cover 27 schools. She further stated that the ministry is aware of sub counties, divisions and Town councils that will not receive seed secondary schools by the end of this program ,which is attributed to the resource constraints to accommodate the needs of all including the newly created administrative units. She however pointed out that the government is committed to construct at least a government aided school in every sub county. Area Member of Parliament Hon. Nathan Itungo also graced this colourful function. Others present were; Ministry of Education and Sports officials, RDC, DPC, district political leadership , headed by District Chairperson, Mr. Tumwesigye Didas Tabaro, district technical staff led by Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Kasagara Edward, religious leaders, parents, community members and other stakeholders Bukiro Seed secondary school started operations on 10th January 2022, and currently has an enrollment of 220 students. According to the School headteacher, Ms. Maurine Nuwagaba, the main challenges that the school faces are; unreliable water source, lack of electricity, lack of boarding facilities especially needed for girls who have to travel long distances to school, and need for incinerator. Bukiro Seed secondary school is the second seed school in Mbarara district, and one of the 117 seed secondary schools constructed by Government of Uganda, under phase one of the World Bank funded Uganda InterGovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UGIFT) Program.
