Economic Activities

Animal rearing 2%, Crop Farming 87.4%, Fishing 0.1%, Employment Income 4.0%, Trading in Agricultural Produce 2.8%, Trading in non-agricultural products 2.6%, others 0.9 %.

Political and Administrative Units

The district has 1 municipality, 3 municipal divisions, 14 sub–counties (Political units) and 2 counties, 6 municipal wards, 83 parishes, 742 cells/villages (Administrative units).

District Introduction

Mbarara district, a land of varying relief; fairly rolling, clear cut landscapes and flat outlays is positioned in South Western Uganda. Boardered by Ibanda and Kiruhura districts to the North, Kiruhura and Isingiro districts to the East, Isingiro and Ntungamo districts to the South and Bushenyi district to the West.

With a vision, “Enlightened community, harmonious environment, and peaceful district.” The district rests on a land area of 1,788 square kilometers that is generally grassland and woodland savannah with patches of forest mineral resources.
